I was pleased to sit down with my longtime friend and colleague, Thorunn Bjarnadottir, to discuss her upbringing in Iceland and her insights on some of the cultural differences she has experienced during her many years living and working in the U.S. Formerly the Director of Intercultural Education in the International Student and Scholar Services office at the University of Minnesota, Thorunn is now the founder and CEO of Dancing With Differences.
Episode #111: Call and Response
A question (and answer) on the bus.
Postscript: One thing I didn’t include in this episode was my fellow bus rider’s comment that ‘no one was listening to her’. In hindsight, I wonder if she might have been feeling this way because of a difference between her more ‘interdependent’ cultural value and others’ more ‘independent’ cultural value?
Episode #95: New 'Roomie'
Getting to know a (furry) new roommate.
Episode #78: (Inter)dependence
A solo search?
Episode #19: (Dis)abilities
The relative cultural values of 'independence' and 'interdependence'.
